The center is directed by the “Religiosos Mercedarios” (Mercedarians Friars), and provides diverse services for the community of “El Chorrillo”, located in Panamá City.
– “Nuestra Señora de Fátima” (Our Lady of Fatima) Church.
– Elderly Care Home “San Pedro Nolasco” that shelters 50 senior adults
– Children’s Home “Federico Humbert Azcárraga” that keeps 25 children who are at social risk.
– Bilingual Center for Integral Formation ”Nuestra Señora de la Merced” (Our Lady of La Merced) that has an enrollment of 700 students from Toddlers (2 years old) to the Teenagers (16 years old) from “El Chorrillo” neighborhood. This educational center has been awarded with the First Place Prize of the National Competition for Educational Excellence in the 9th grade category, for two consecutive years 2016 and 2017.
The Human Support Center lives in harmony, sharing with children and seniors, transmitting daily important values such as respect for others, honesty and generosity, always through a system of comprehensive education, which seeks to teach with love and freedom. Thanks to the work in education and prevention of the Religiosos Mercedarios, work is being done to improve the educational, family and social conditions of one of the neighborhoods with the highest social risk in Panama.
“Despega Foundation” has annually supported the “Fátima Human Support Center,” El Chorrillo” with the funds of the golf tournament, in the following projects:
2014: Remodeling and conditioning of the bedrooms, bathrooms and common areas of the Children’s Home “Federico Humbert Azcárraga”.
2015: The music room has been conditioned with adequate implementation for the walls, sound insulation, lighting, electricity and storage area for musical instruments. Aiming to offer musical instruments lessons for all students of the Bilingual Center for Integral Formation “Nuestra Señora de la Merced”.
2016: Musical instruments such as: violins, violas, cellos, double basses, clarinets, trumpets, and trombones are purchased in order to increase the number of students to participate in the “Mercedaria Children’s Symphony Orchestra”.
2017: Copa Airlines donated $40,000 to pay labor paint of the basketball field and equipment: electricity, lamps, lighting, stands, columns protection, sports court and equipment such as 16 basketball baskets for different ages, soccer goals, and basketballs and soccerballs.
2018: Opening of the “Parroquia de Fatima’s” basketball court. With this court, the students will have access to a space that focuses on sports, promoting better habits for our society.
